Here at Life Saver Pool Fence, it is our mission to alert readers of all things water safety-related. Often, this comes in the form of safety tips and how-tos. Today, we’re focusing on paddle board safety and a recall that may affect our audience.
About Surf 9’s Body Glove Tandem and ULI Inflatable Paddle Boards
Recently, four separate products from the importing company Surf 9 have been recalled. Read on to learn more:
-
Body Glove Tandem Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board:
The recalled boards are silver and black with the Body Glove logo on top and bottom of the board. The word “Tandem” is on the side rails.
-
ULI Inventor Inflatable Paddle Board
This board is light and dark blue with “ULI” on the nose of the board and “Inventor” on the side rails.
-
ULI Zettian Inflatable Supyak
The Zettian supyak is light and dark blue with “ULI” near the nose of the board and “Zettian” on the side rails.
-
ULI Lila Inflatable Supyak
The Lila has a hot pink and blue yoga mat traction pad with “ULI” in white on the tail of the board and “Lila” written on the side rails.
A black carrying bag is included for all these recalled items.
Why Were These Products Recalled?
Luckily, no injuries have been reported from these items. However, it seems that the glue on the inflatable boards can separate at the seams. This causes the boards to unexpectedly deflate. Of course, this can present a drowning hazard. Surf 9 has received three reports of this deflation issue. As such, the recall is a precautionary measure to ensure that no subsequent injuries occur. Still, it is a vitally important one.
In all, about 13,300 units have been red-flagged. In addition, about 7,000 of the Body Glove Boards were sold in Canada. They were sold between December 2021 and July 2022 (The Body Glove boards; $630) and between July 2021 and July 2022 (the ULI brands; $700-800) at Costco Wholesale Warehouses nationwide, and online at costco.com.
What to Do If You Have This Product
For maximum paddle board safety, Surf 9 is urging any consumers who own the above items to immediately stop using them. Consumers can receive a refund for their item by returning them to Costco or contacting Surf 9 by phone (toll-free at 866-696-9257), email (recall@surf9.com), or online at https://www.surf9.com/recallandproductnotices or www.surf9.com.
