Chart: Drowning Stats for July 2022
As you can see in the drowning stats for July 2022, there were a total of 411 drowning incidents last month. These were cataloged when they were reported to viable news sources across the United States. The worst year on record was July 2011, but the past few years have shown a downward trajectory. That is wonderful news!
Obviously, water safety experts would rather see this number at zero, but any reduction is a welcome sight. In the chart above, we have presented the latest drowning stats for July 2022.
That said, there is definitely one statistic that gives cause for alarm. The number of drowning incidents for children 12 and up has increased dramatically since last year. Perhaps there were more kids going to summer camp or swimming in general this summer.
Taking a closer look at the causes, the problem seems to be mostly the usual suspects. Specifically, a large percentage of the drownings were once again due to a lack of life jackets or personal floatation devices. This is a recurring theme each month. Sadly, this is a completely avoidable risk. Far too many swimmers and boaters simply do not use these life-saving devices. Failing that, some of these devices may be faulty. Instead, the best and most effective floatation devices should be inspected and approved by the United States Coast Guard.
Additionally, the drowning stats for July 2022 show that ladders had caused a few of the drowning incidents. Knowing how to enter and exit the pool is a critical safety issue. Beyond that, ladders railings and stairs should always be inspected. A loose or rickety ladder can be a serious hazard. Before anyone gets in the water, make sure there is a safe and secure way to exit.
